Periodic Evaluations

Please review the following sections for specific information regarding Periodic Evaluations for Probationary Faculty in years 2, 4, and 5, Faculty Undergoing Post-Tenure Review/Periodic Evaluation, and Temporary faculty members on a 1-year contract, and Temporary faculty members requesting an initial 3-year contract. The guides listed below include links to all materials needed to assist staff, and administrators with the periodic evaluation process. 

Periodic evaluation is required for probationary faculty in years 2, 4 and 5 by their department or school in the Fall. Probationary faculty in year 1 do not need to be reviewed if they schedule a mentoring meeting with their chair or director.

Periodic evaluation is required for tenured faculty by their department or school in the Spring (including chairs, directors, librarians, counselors, and SSPARs) who are not in the Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) and have not undergone within the last five (5) years periodic evaluation or performance review in connection with tenure and/or promotion.

Temporary faculty are evaluated regularly to support good teaching and to provide information for appointment and work assignment decisions. Evaluations for temporary faculty typically take place in spring semester.

Temporary faculty members on a 1-year contract must undergo an annual periodic evaluation.

Temporary faculty members requesting an initial 3-year contract must undergo a cumulative periodic evaluation, after an entire 6-year period has been worked on a single campus in a single department to become eligible.

Temporary faculty members requesting a subsequent 3-year contract must undergo a cumulative periodic evaluation of the entire 3-year appointment, prior to reappointment.

Range Elevations

Temporary faculty employees (lecturers) shall be eligible for range elevation if they are not eligible for additional Salary Step Increases (SSIs) and who have served five (5) years in their current range.
